Florida Veterinary Technician

A veterinary technician is there to assist the veterinarian in whatever they need while caring for a sick or injured animal. A veterinary technician is to a veterinarian, as a nurse is to a doctor.

It takes a certain type of person to be a veterinary technician. Because you will be caring for animals at your job, you must have a love for animals. It is also important to understand that the job can be emotionally challenging. You would be caring for animals that are sick or injured, and potentially in a lot of pain. This can be difficult. The worst case scenario when working for a veterinarian is caring for an animal who has to be euthanized. You must be able to help the owner handle the news once they are told, while trying to be strong yourself. This job can be physically demanding as well. While assisting the veterinarian, you may need to help carry, or hold large animals down so that they can be treated. Most animals do not understand that the veterinarian is trying to help them, and can be resistant.

In order to become a veterinary technician, you would need to get the proper training an education. There are many schools that offer the education necessary to receive your veterinary technician degree. Most employers will require their technicians to have this degree.

When studying for your veterinary technician degree, you will learn the clinical side of the job. You will learn about emergency animal care, critical care, and dental hygiene. You will get to know all of the aspects of these parts of the job. You will also be trained in animal anesthesia. Most programs also include some administrative courses, allowing you to handle the work at the front desk as well. By the time you have completed your courses, you will have all of the necessary knowledge to be a huge asset in a veterinary office.
