The Dietetic and Nutrition Practice Council was established to ensure that every dietitian, nutritionist or nutrition counselor meets minimum requirements for safe practice. The Florida Department of Health indicates that the Dietetic and Nutrition Practice Council is responsible for licensing, monitoring, disciplining and educating dietitians, nutritionists, and nutrition counselors to assure competency and safety to practice in Florida. Every prospective nutritionist must meet strict requirements. Requirements to become a nutritionist in Florida, according to the Florida Department of Health, includes possession of a minimum of a bachelor’s degree with a major in human nutrition, food and nutrition, dietetics or food management.
