Educational Requirements
A physical therapist assistant must have either an associate in science or an associate in applied science degree in physical therapy from an accredited two or four-year school. Both of these degrees are typically take two years to complete.
The primary subjects taught include:
- Basic principles of physical therapy
- Functional anatomy
- Introduction to caring for therapy patients
- Clinical procedures
Along with a two-year degree from an accredited school, you must also be certified in CPR and have basic first aid training. The associate degree and other certifications are required before you can take the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy licensing exams. You cannot practice physical therapy in any form in the state of Florida without being certified and licensed.
In order to maintain your licensing, you will need to put in 24 continuous hours of education pertaining to your field. Without the ongoing physical therapy training, you will be unable to retain your license.
