Florida Medical Assisting

A medical assistant works hard alongside doctors and physicians in all sorts of settings, from clinics to hospital to private doctor’s offices. Medical assisting jobs are always going to be in demand around the country as well as internationally. The health care field continues to grow, and the need for qualified medical assistants will grow along with it. In fact, according to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, the current nationwide growth is considered to be around 35 percent. If you want to truly invest in a career that is wise and sustainable, consider whether you may want to become a medical assistant in Florida.

Educational Requirements

The first step to being a medical assistant is to do as well in school as you can. If you have already graduated, study extensively for college entrance exams. In order to become a medical assistant in Florida, you can receive training on the job, but it is rare that someone will be able to break into this lucrative field with no past experience. Therefore, it’s recommended that you have completed some formal training in the field, whether it’s from a four-year university, a community college, or a vocational school.

As of 2011, however, certification to become a medical assistant in Florida is voluntary. Certification is a wise idea because it will give you the upper hand when it comes to knowledge, career advancement, and oftentimes your starting salary. The more you have to offer, the more likely you are to get the job that’s available. In a competitive job market, it’s important to do what you can to stand out as a medical assistant.

Training Programs

There are training programs that can help you be prepared for certification as a medical assistant in Florida. Both the American Medical Technologists Association and the American Association of Medical Assistants offer certification options. You may enroll in a training program at many community colleges and vocational schools as well. Many four-year universities also have programs that can help prepare you for certification. Look to enroll in classes that help improve your people skills as well as your knowledge of math and science.
