There are excellent careers choices and options for massage therapy in Florida. There are over 80 different specialized massage therapy modalities to choose from when you become a massage therapist in Florida. However, it’s not as easy as it seems. There are a number of guidelines and educational requirements that must be met in order to be a licensed massage therapist.
So, perhaps you’re wondering what steps you will need to take and what courses you will need to pass in order to become a certified massage therapist in Florida. Some of the requirements include having to complete a program at a Board of Massage Therapy-Approved learning institution, take and pass a 2 hour course on preventing medical errors, and pass one of several tests. The tests include the National Certification Examination in Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork, The National Certification Exam in Therapeutic Massage, The National Exam for State Licensure as administered by the National Certification Board of Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork, or the Massage and Bodywork Licensing Exam that is administered by the Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards.
Each learning institution will have a lot to offer in the way of hands on training and experience. You will be taught about massage with theory and technique and will be introduced to many different courses. Some of the courses include:

- Local Laws and State Health Codes
Not only will you be required to obtain the initial education and certification, you will also need to be re-certified on a regular basis. This is done by completing one hour of ongoing education for each month that has gone by since you first received your initial license. In the state of Florida this is not to exceed 24 hours.
Florida has many different massage therapy schools that can meet your personal needs. You will be able to choose the area of massage that interests you and then get practical and hands on training. If you have time constraints, you are able to take classes either part time or full time until you reach your goals in becoming a massage therapist.
